Introduction to Body Massage -
One day workshop

Date:  Saturday 5th November
Time: 9.30am - 5pm
Cost :  £100
Deposit: £40

General body massage, sometimes called Swedish massage, is a relaxation treatment that aims to relieve the tension in muscles and promote an increase in blood circulation around the body. Using massage oils, or creams, the therapist uses their hands to gently but firmly push, pull and press the muscles until they soften and relax.

Negative emotions such as anger, worry and fear cause us to feel stressed. The effect of stress on our bodies is to raise our heart rate and blood pressure and increase muscle tension.

Using massage to reduce muscle tension and relaxation to lower heart rate and blood pressure, counter-acts the stress and calms the mind, helping you to cope with life’s problems.

On this one day workshop you will learn some of the massage techniques and how to link them in a simple routine to perform an effective back, neck, shoulder and leg treatment. Each stage of the routine is broken down into steps which are demonstrated to you by the experienced tutor. You will then work with a partner to practice what you have just seen and then swap to receive the treatment and experience the benefits.
The training continues in this way until the full routine can be completed. You will be encouraged to make notes as you learn so that you can repeat the treatment at any time in the future.

The group sizes are deliberately kept small, usually just 4 or 6 people so that the tutor can give as much individual attention as possible.  The workshop is suited to couples, friends or family members who want to learn together so they can treat each other in the future.
Although the workshop is not a professional qualification it will give you sufficient knowledge and skills to give a short treatment and provide an ideal introduction to anyone who is thinking of signing up to do a full, professional, certificated course in massage in the future.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • The benefits and uses for massage for health

•    The names and positions of some body muscles
•    The basic techniques used in body massage
•    How to carry out a basic massage to the back, neck, shoulder and legs.
•    How the body relaxes and the mind calms during a massage treatment

The cost of the workshop is £100 per person, or £170 if two people join and pay together.

A £40 deposit is required when booking.
