Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

This qualification is intended for those who assess vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the work environment (for example a workshop, classroom or other training environment) AND occupational competence in an individual's work environment, (often NVQ's).

It will aid those who wish to widen their career pathway and skill set within their chosen sector through assessing.  

This qualification provides progression to Level 4 qualifications in internal quality assurance for learners who wish to further their knowledge and skills and become internal or lead internal verifiers. 

N.B. This is not a teaching qualification - but does replace the old V1 or D32/D33 assessment qualifications. To gain a teaching qualification you will need to complete the CET (CTLLS) Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training; or you can start with the Level 3 Award (PTLLS)

Unit 1 - Understanding the Principals and Practices of Assessment

Unit 2 - Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding

Unit 3 - Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment

Successful achievement of all 3 units must be achieved for the full qualification


The CAVA course is ideal for those who want to assess in areas such as construction, hospitality, hairdressing and beauty, care homes, leisure and more. Once completed you’ll be able to apply different assessment techniques to help guide others.  You must be qualified yourself in the subjects you wish to assess.  You will be required to assess a minimum of  two learners on two occasions (4 assessments in total) covering a range of assessment methods. 2 assessments are done within the classroom/training environment and 2 are done in the individuals work environment.


We will work with you regarding when you want to do this course.  The theory work can be done with your tutor in person or on Zoom. Assessment arrangements will be made with you to suit your individual requirements and there will be no further charge for coming out to your work place provided it is within a 30 mile radius of St Clears, Carmarthenshire. Further than that will occur an additional fee of £5 per 10miles

Active IQ Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the understanding, knowledge and skills needed to assess both vocational and work based qualifications in their chosen area of expertise. 

Who could do this qualification:  

  • Learners aged 19+

  • Individuals who would like to pursue a career in assessing

  • Individuals who are employed and working in teaching and training who would like to widen their knowledge and skills to cover both vocational and work based competency qualifications.

Entry requirements:  Learners must be aged 19+ and have technical competence in the area they wish to assess.

What could this qualification lead to? 

Learners will be able to progress to the following job roles:

  • Assessor in the vocational education sector

  • Assessor in the work based education sector

Qualifications the learners can progress to:

  • Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice

  • Level 4 Certificate in Leading the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
